How to Recycle at Home or the Office

Recycling is a win - win situation no matter which direction you are looking from.
You save money (by reusing certain items) and you are constantly giving back to the environment. Not to mention that you have so much less dirt and waste leaving your home.
Here is a list of tips to get you in the right frame of mind to save, reuse and recycle where you can!
Worm Farms
Oh yes I said it, as gross as they might sound in the beginning, the truth is that when you are running your little warm farm you are not only generating some very high quality fertilizer for your vegetable garden but you are also recycling waste foods that would otherwise get thrown away!
If you can't handle the idea of worms…
A Compost pile has the same benefits (minus the worm tea fertiliser). Despite what you might think both the compost pile and the worm farm are completely odourless.
When you eat out at restaurants and don't finish your food, don't waste it - take it home in a doggie bag for lunch at work tomorrow.
Be conscious when dealing with potentially harmful or toxic chemicals. You are not just able to throw these down the drain pipe as they will pollute the environment. You need to take care to dispose of these items according to the advice on the label.
Keep a separate dustbin for plastic, glass and paper products. These are recyclable items and your local recycling company will happily take them off your hands.
Just remember to wash out the glass and plastic containers before throwing them in the appropriate bin - otherwise you will be stuck with smelly old milk bottles instead of nice clean recycling materials.
Egg boxes, toilet rolls, old milk bottles also have other uses. Primary schools love to use these items in their art classes and if you contact your nearest school you might find that they will be happy to take these items off your hands.
Re-use whatever you can re-use in your own home. When you purchase spices, purchase one bottle and then the re-fills as apposed to buying a new bottle each time. Use your old newspapers to clean windows or start fires when you are braai-ing. If you have pets like birds or rabbits etc - the news paper can be used to line the bottom of their cages.
